Low Back Traction Device Offers Portable & Effective Decompression Of The Lumbar Spine In Your Hands

Based on leverage, the low back traction device is a mechanically assisted manual method of applying traction to the lower back. By lying flat, less force is required to produce traction decompression, and you simply push on the device to produce the pain relieving force.

I have used a similar unassisted method and have taught patients the same method. This requires lying on a bed with your legs hanging over the edge and using your hands to block at the hips or pelvis and pushing or just relaxing the upper body to produce traction. It is quite simple once you get the hang of it and it really does work. This method can be very specific and usually requires a few minutes.

With this device, there are some advantages as it makes it easier to apply in most instances. Just be careful not to push too hard as your upper thighs may bruise. If you have shoulder problems, this is not going to be the best method. But it is an effective and inexpensive way to try this method.

Because it is small, it is easily portable, so you can not only treat your own back at home, but take it with you to the office or when traveling. They say just 10 minutes per day and I think this is reasonable, however, you may require more sessions spaced throughout the day.

It depends on your response if you should hold the force or do repetitions of holding, releasing and holding again. Usually, the more degeneration or deterioration, the more you hold, rather than do the hold-release method.

The low back traction device is FDA cleared, however this is not an endorsement. Typical conditions are to relax sore back muscles, decompress herniated or bulging discs, ease back joint stiffness, treat sciatica, and alleviate arthritis or degenerative disease.

For acute back pain, traction may not be appropriate. Recent sprain/strains and herniations have a great deal of inflammation and are better left alone or to passive therapeutic modalities until the swelling has subsided. Treatments like rest, ice and electrotherapy for the first 72 hours are more appropriate. Avoid sitting if it is a disc. The low back traction device will be more appropriate for more chronic conditions.
