Ear Pillow – Relieve Pressure & Protect Neck

If you need a pillow to ease pressure on your ear, but need good neck support or have neck issues, this ear pillow can help to reduce irritation and keep the cervical spine aligned properly.

Typical pillow to reduce pressure are round and used on top of an existing pillow. This may be fine for a few nights or if you have no neck issues. Often used for piercing’s, headphones and eardbuds, these pillows can place your neck in a position that can irritated sensitive nerves and tissues often seen with arthritis or may lead to cervical spine problems with extended use.

A condition called chondrodermatitis nodularis chronica helicis (CNH) is an inflammatory condition affecting the skin and cartilage of the ear. It is sometimes called Winkler disease. With a number of treatment approaches, it is crucial to remove ear pressure during sleep. For those who have neck problems, this can pose a problem in long term use if you sleep on your side.

The ear pillow is a great option. Made of chemical free gel foam, it has ear holes on either side built into the pillow and cover, made of soft, double weaved, bamboo polyester. It has an adjustable insert for 4 or 5 inch height and can be used either with the holes closer to the edge of the pillow, or further away simply by turning the pillow.

The ear holes are 2.7 x 4.3 inches and are perfect for falling asleep with headphones, earbuds, and to ease pressure for chondrodermatitis. I had developed this when I was injured my facets joints, producing hip pain so I could only sleep on my right side for 3 months.

Eventually, I found the right doctor to diagnose the condition properly since the orthopedist thought it was a torn labrum in my hip. After a couple injections and a rhizotomy, the hip pain subsided, however, the chondrodermatitis nodularis chronica helicis persisted.

I tried a round pillow on top of my pillow and it relieved the pressure, but aggravated my neck to a great degree. In order to relieve the pressure long term, I needed a better solution. While reluctant at first, I ordered the ear pillow and have been very pleased with the performance. I use the 5 inch height and the long side to give shoulder support. The pressure on my ear is reduced and my neck loves it.

The chondrodermatitis is subsiding and I find the pillow to be very comfortable and ergonomically sound for long term use. Could the ear holes be larger, yes, but this may degrade the structural integrity of the pillow, which is very sound.
