Shoulder Pillow Is A System To Relieve Shoulder Pain While Sleeping
Using a unique design specifically for shoulder problems, the shoulder pillow is three pillows in one. There is a gradual incline piece that raises to a level where the shoulder is not under any compressive pressure, combined with a special shaped pillow for comfort.
Functional pillows can relieve shoulder pain while sleeping with shoulder cutouts, however, the shoulder still rests on the surface. This system for shoulder relief eliminates compression while elevating just enough to remove this pressure. The shoulder fits in a special recess specifically designed to accommodate the shoulder and maintain comfort while side sleeping.
The arm pocket at the top is symmetrical for sleeping on the right or left side. There is an adjustable small insert pillow within the arm pocket that is filled with shredded memory foam adjustability and comfort. The flexible nature of the design allows precise placement of the shoulder to find the most comfortable arm position.
There is a full length body pillow that supports the legs and back in a pressure relieving and ergonomically sound posture filled with shredded memory foam. It employs medical grade materials for superior quality, support and durability. The support wedge is constructed with 4 types of medical grade foam, strategically layered and placed to obtain maximum support and comfort. The top layer is memory foam.
The shoulder relief pillow is a system that comes with a washable 80/20 Cotton/Poly pillow case.
It measures at 28 inches wide and takes up about half of a queen sized bed, however, you can easily and comfortably turn over while keeping close to your partner. Full system is 45 x 28 x 6 inches. It is not a standard sleeping pillow and is meant for conditions that directly effect the shoulder joint.
From the effects of an old sports injury to chronic shoulder pain, the system allows you to sleep comfortably on your side. The wedge base and body pillow work synergistically to elevate just high enough (gradual 5 – 8 degree angle) to take pressure off the downside arm and shoulder.
The base wedge is 6″ height, 30″ width, and 34″ length. The therapeutic body pillow is 6″ height, 22″ width, and 50″ Length, however the shredded memory foam allows changes in shape with fluffing. It is more than just a pillow with arm hole.

It may take up to 30 nights to adjust while the foam breaks in and you adjust to sleeping a new manner. Relief will come, if you stick with it! Due to two shoulder surgeries and left with two torn rotator cuff tendons with shoulder strains, and it took 4 years of sleeping in a recliner before I was able to sleep in the bed with a functional pillow. This system would have been a welcome tool for better sleep with irreparable shoulder damage and pain.
A 2022 study in Musculoskeletal Science & Practice indicates nighttime shoulder pain and disability are related. They found pain was associated with calcific tendonitis in the supraspinatus, infraspinatus tendinosis, and subscapularis tendinosis, which was an independent predictor of nighttime pain.
Tendinosis is a chronic or long term tendon injury when tendons degenerate where pain and swelling, worse pain during and after activity, stiffness in the joint and restricted joint movement can be experienced. It is usually caused by overuse of the tendon, trauma, or too aggressive physical therapy after tendon repair.
Tendonitis is a short term inflammation of the tendon which can be treated with anti-inflammatory measures. If not treated properly, it can lead to tendonosis. Tendonosis may take up to 6 months to heal. MRI or ultrasound scanning is recommended to direct proper treatment.
A 2022 study in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery indicated 89% of patients reported sleep disturbances prior to rotator cuff repair surgery. While most experienced resolution of sleep disturbance at 6 months post-surgery, some took two years, and some did not resolve after 2 years. The shoulder pillow can be a great solution.
