Coil Spring Pillow Offers Unique Support & Posture Alignment

The coil spring pillow uses a patent pending individual movement effect of 40 pocketed springs that will adjust to your changing positions.

coil spring pillowThis is a standard, uniform surface pillow for general purpose use. It uses a coil spring technology to afford accommodation to anatomy and postures with individual reactive springs. The idea is for the pillow to react like a water pillow or inflatable pillow.

Instead of a water bladder that can be heavy and messy, or the individual air cells that are very good, although expensive, this is a reasonably priced pillow that affords comfort and support for most individuals. It can work for back, side, and stomach sleeping positions.

For neck pain, it will help some, however; in order to address difficult problems, it is always best to get a custom fit for the best neutral posture in back and side sleeping like the therapeutic pillow.

The coils in the pillow allow a comfortable fit for most, and there is some evidence that it is well accepted and can help to alleviate neck, upper back and head pain. In a 2019 study in the journal Physical Therapy a “spring pillow” was used in 64 adults with chronic non-specified neck pain and was found to reduce pain more than education and use of their own pillow.

It must always be considered in studies using just one pillow that comparisons to other ergonomics pillows can not be assessed. According to the authors of the study, “Education may not have been the best comparator for the spring pillow; drugs consumption, actual pillow use, and the implementation of the educational suggestions as prescribed were not controlled.”

We see these limitations and conflicts where the water pillow was used, not compared to other pillows, and the manufacturer sponsored the study. On the face, it appears to be well scientifically established, but careful scrutiny reveals possible ulterior motives. This does not mean the pillow was not effective and more comfortable and beneficial than the individuals “normal” pillow. It is difficult to find a good one as everyone is different; in size, shape, and especially specific condition.

I do like the fact that the company is accessible and responsive to customer feedback. They state they are coming out with a new model, and they do have a 90 day refund guarantee. I think that specific placement of the coils with varying degrees of spring could be a very good direction. While this would most likely increase cost, adjusting ergonomics for particular individuals would be paramount to offering true relief as opposed to a generalized hit or miss.

The cover is 100% percale weave cotton with a spacer mesh fabric and soft polyester microfiber fill. This makes the outer layer soft and breathable, while the inner spring core is pressure relieving and supportive.

The manufacturer claims, “Neck pain, back pain, spondylitis, arthritis, rheumatism, migraine, stress, asthma can be helped with our sleeping Pillows.” I would perhaps change the “can” to “may”.
