Popular Pain Patches Use Herbs In A Formula Designed To Provide Pain Relief And Help Speed Healing

These pain relief patches can be great for neck, shoulder, back, or joint pain and usually provide a pleasant, relaxing and natural method to alleviate both acute and chronic problems.

Combined in a formulas, some of the traditional Chinese patches, sometimes called plasters, use two of my favorite herbs – frankincense and myrrh in a blend of herbal and active ingredients for pain relief and healing. They come in boxes of pre-cut patches or as a roll in tins that you can cut to the desired length

The formulas may use many herbs, not just frankincense and myrrh, and this allows a synergistic effect which makes it more effective than a single herb or a formula with just 2 herbs. The formulas change over time due to herb availability and laws governing the appropriateness of harvesting.

So, there are some basic pain patches that have been popular over the years. They can be effective, when traditional patches or other topicals have failed. Because the formulas change. You need to check when you order. However, we will list some of the common ingredients used in these pain patches. Some use many, and some only use a few.

Benefits Of Pain Patches

Pain patches have multiple uses and can be great for neck pain relief and as a substitute for ice or heat. They can provide hours of relief in a single use, and relieve pain without any gels, creams or lotions to mess with. The unique herbal formulas enriched in the pain patch helps invigorate blood flow, breaks blood stagnation, relax tendons and muscles, alleviate pain and promote healing.

These pain patches have been a favorite of mine for years. I started using them in my practice around 1993 in conjunction with a myofascial release technique used in difficult cases. I found that using the pain patch after treatment helped to reduce any residual inflammation from deep tissue work and added to the efficacy of the therapy. I soon found that many patients would stop by to pick up pain patches for use at home and to give to friends.

Uses

Traditional description of applications include: Qi(energy) and blood stagnation presenting with sprains, strains, bruising, muscle pain, joint pain, soft tissue injuries and simple fractures. They can be excellent for acute injuries and chronic pain flare-ups. Stimulates local circulation and metabolism, significantly reducing recovery time for trauma without open wounds. Also good for chronic lower back ache, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. May also assist in relief of intercostal neuralgia, post-herpetic neuralgia.

Acute & Chronic Application

Formulas may be cooling or warming. Warming pain patches are more suitable for chronic pain and injuries. Many formulas will achieve a balance for more versatile use. If you are not sure, do not use on acute or very recent injuries for a few days.

Chronic pain begins about 3-4 weeks after an initial injury and consists of residual pain and stiffness. Warming pain patches are especially useful when there is impaired circulation and the area is sensitive to cold and/or cold to the touch. They are appropriate for chronic injuries that ache in cold, damp weather. It should not be used while inflammation, heat and redness remain.

During the acute stage where inflammation and swelling are present, use the cooling patches helps to speed up healing in hopes to avoid chronic pain. Once the inflammation and swelling are gone, the chronic pain patches can be used to strongly stimulate circulation for further healing.
