Saunders Lumbar Traction – Treatment

  1. Place on either a bed or firm surface, wheels up
  2. Take the wheels off before unzipping the case
  3. The case lid should be opened towards the treatment surface or head of the bed
  4. Take the pump out of the storage compartment, placing it next to the traction device
  5. Unhook the buckles of the harnesses, positioning lower harness slightly overlapping upper
  6. Use a watch, timer or clock for treatment time
  7. Fist secure the lower harness – works best over bare skin, then tighten so it is snug, but without pain
  8. Repeat with the upper harness
  9. Place the pump into position for pumping and slowly pump by pulling the handle completely open, then completely in
  10. Look at the gauge on the pump, making sure you have the right amount of force and stretch
  11. Turn the hand pump gauge to the hold position.
  12. Begin to time the traction session working gradually to the traction force and time prescribed

In the beginning, 3 to 5 minutes can be sufficient with irritable conditions and/or to get used to the feel and using the device.
