Head Support System Plus Adds Additional Panels For Extra Support & Permits Control Of Head Sitting Or Sitting & Providing Head Control Solutions For Support & Correction Where Possible

Those requiring support, the head support system plus allows standing or sitting. Customizable support for dropped head syndrome, wry neck/torticollis, cervical extensor tone and other conditions needing support or neurorestorative correction. So, custom support by heat molding to one position or gradual correction, for example; posture correction 20%, 50%, 75% over 30, 60, 90 days.

The plus system, as with the basic, comes complete with the TLSO vest support and the required cervical attachment for head support depending on the condition as indicated by the health care provider. Both used as a neurorestorative corrective system and support for adults and children requiring head control.

The Basic System uses Code L0454 and has 1 flexible front panel. The Plus uses code L0456 and has 4 overlapping Kydex shells for improved stability & tri-dimensional control. The attachments for head support are High Temp Kydex and use code L0999. PDAC/Medicare Approved. Made in U.S.A.

A health care professional – Doctor or Occupational Therapist is required for successful implementation regarding measuring, fitting (including heat molding), as well as activities of daily living. Heat molding is required for proper fitting. Since modification is needed for proper fit, along with a hygiene factor, returns are not permitted.

Important Note: Infant, Toddler & Child Size Supports Are 1 Size for both circumference and height. Select these corresponding options for both measurements. The cervical attachment is sized to the TLSO. The graphic is approximate guide with a long pelvis. There is some play depending on the therapist’s assessment of the patient’s anatomy. The video shows measurement for that patient.

Measuring & Fitting TLSO Support

Head Support System Plus Fitting & Heat Molding

It is common after strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, as well as conditions such as ALS, Parkinson’s, torticollis and radiation fibrosis syndrome to encounter head and neck control issues with a deficit in neck muscles. This can lead to head posture problems and we commonly see dropped head syndromes, as well as side to side control issues as well as extensor muscle tone.

In more problematic issues, we sometimes have to range the head from the chest or ear from the shoulders. This is a situation often causing problems with breathing, with complications like pneumonia without proper lung expansion. Disorientation from lack of oxygen to the brain and problems swallowing can result.

The head supports are flexible with a technology similar to a fishing pole for a gradual ranging of the head into a more normal posture. The heat molding permits a custom fit, adjusting to the condition progression and demands. The head support system plus permits an upright or graduated upright posture when standing or sitting.

extension head supportConditions are without or with tone, It is possible that the lack of tone begins the head leaning, as the upper body weight continues the head leaning, unable to overcome the forces of gravity. Patients from infants to adults may have a tone deficit (hypotonic), often seen in cerebral palsy. As tone develops, there is a need to reduce spasticity.

The long piece of the head support fits into a pocket in the TLSO working together to form a head support system. The TLSO will assist to bringing the body upward, while the head portion works to support the head with a padding according to the patient’s needs. The cervical attachment head support is automatically sized to the TLSO ordered.

As the head is ranged up, patients regain the ability to view the environment and become more oriented. This helps with eating as well. Some will need a caregiver to hold the head when eating. With the head support system plus, the head is up or ranging up, with nothing underneath the chin causing restrictions.

Due to the neuroflex technology, it may be a restorative process as the neck muscles are exercising with slight pulling against resistance depending on the level of heat molding. This is the restorative part, allowing the head support to do the work with the patient to as comfortably as possible pulling into the tone and going back. Over time, it is quite possible there is enough gain in muscle control where the support may be progressively removed or just used for maintenance purposes.

safecerv head supportThe Extension Support is for problems with the head drop/forward flexion. The SafeCerv is for neck/head twisting, side bending and rotation. Helps with right or left head leaning and neck issues like cerebral palsy, torticollis, spinal cord and brain injuries that can result in a dystonia condition.

It has an extra side support which goes on the turning and/or leaning side: left head lean = left safecerv head support. It has holes that are arced the vertical piece that attaches to the safecerv. For patients that can be comfortably ranged to near neutral, it can be attached aligning the holes straight. Remember, never torque the head. Instead, use a gentle massaging of the shoulders, with the caregiver or therapist very gradually bringing up the head. With significant leaning, use the arced holes that allow a 3D component, accommodating the altered posture.

There are two safecerv sizes: Measure the circumference (around the head) Small – Less Than 22 inches | Large – Greater Than 22 inches.

We seek to relax tone, allowing inhibition of muscles. Then a prolonged, low load passive stretch in attempts to re-lengthen shortened tissues. This process is gradual process, taking around six weeks to realign the myosin and actin of the sarcomere units within the belly of the muscle, preparing the re-lengthening process. If there is aggressive over-stretching, there is a risk of doing harm, damaging connective tissues.

With the head support system plus, it is possible for changes to take place in about eight weeks. If arced attachment progresses towards the mid-line, you can then change the attachments screws and/or heat mold for additional correction when indicated. At this juncture, mild stretching may be done towards the opposite side, which aids in lengthening shortened tissues.

hyperextension head supportThis hyperextension support helps to prevent backward/extension head motion. This may result from a brain related issue such as stroke, anoxia, cancer, cerebral palsy, shaken baby syndrome. For whatever the cause, the patients is loading backwards. While these patients will often recline in a sofa or chair, this just feeds the tone. We are looking for a 90 degree angle of the hip to actually break the tone.

These patients are typically not walking, if tone sets in, they fall backward. It is best to incorporate the head support system plus as soon as possible to minimize the effects, improving quality of life. Therefore, sizes are available in from young to adults. The flex technology does well supporting the head forward and the hip flexed 90 degrees. With correct application, the patient should visibly relax

TLSO Portion Of The Head Support System Plus

The foundation of the system, which supports the cervical attachments that allows support standing or sitting. It helps correct body posture, adding a measure of assistance and stability to the head support. This is the plus system vetebreeze TLSO. It has three extra inserts for stability and control for more difficult cases. It is also coded different than the basic for better reimbursement opportunities due to the increased body posture correction abilities.

plus tlsoIt is better than the basic for lost range of motion, neurological tone, spondylolysis, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, chronic low back pain, spondylolisthesis, post-op fusion, spinal stenosis, and compression/spinal fractures

The belts attach from the bottom up, moving everything up against gravity. It is fitted lying down in the supine position, where the spine is elongated prior to fastening. Have the patient lay on top of the support, allowing rest and encouraging mild stretching to hasten spinal elongation before fastening. In this position, the abdominal contents can be captured which, when they stand, can pull the spine down. Thus, there is an extra measure of support by fitting it in the face up lying position. Assist the patient up to fit the shoulder straps.

The shoulder straps are padded well to reduce pressure. There is some variability, however, most use an “x” configuration. The belts are elastic, make sure they are not over-tightened. The patient should sit comfortably without bottom thigh or chest pressure – take extra precaution with female patients with the chest, as the support should be comfortable under breast tissue.

Although the material is patient friendly and allows air flow, use over clothing – not against the skin directly. The support should permit compression with no undue pressure, because we do not want a posture compensation, creating more muscle tone. The cervical attachment slides into a pocket In the back of the support. The support has three straps, however, shorter height measurements require only two.
