Donut Pillow & Types Of Tailbone Pillows

The donut pillow is a round cushion with the center cut out, like a donut. The circular hole acts as a tailbone cushion that keeps pressure off the tailbone, so there is no or minimal direct contact with the sitting surface.

Other popular products are the u-shaped or wedge type tailbone cushion with a cutout for the coccyx. These cushions also provide about 3 inches of padding, but are angled or contoured in the front to help with posture. They also alleviate pressure from bodyweight on the tailbone through distribution to the sit bones and completely open at the back end.

So, these are the 2 different types of orthopedic pillows or cushions used to reduce soreness and discomfort for tailbone pain and other conditions effecting the area. Both types can be a good choice. In general the wedge type tailbone cushions provide effective relief and offer a posture than can help reduce pressure on the spine. The ring cushion can also alleviate tailbone pain, but may be better for conditions like hemorrhoids and prostate issues.

Regardless of type, both the donut pillow, tailbone cushion wedge & seat wedge offer the means to relieve pressure when sitting for long or short periods. Having both types allows for maximum comfort for different seating situations.
