VISCO—resistant to change of shape, ELASTIC—able to return to its original shape. Viscoelastic Tempurpedic material senses your body temperature and weight then conforms to your exact body dimensions. Pressure is absorbed and evenly distributed throughout the entire surface. Once the source of pressure (your body) is removed, the material “flows” back to its original shape.

DENSITY

Higher density results in greater durability, increased support, and enhanced sensitivity. Features and benefits of viscoelastic materials are proportionally enhanced as density is increased or decreased. Our extensive research has led us to choose the density of 5.34 lb/ft3 as the ideal density for a sleep surface.

OPEN-CELL

Tempurpedic mattress material is a viscoelastic, “open cell,” polyurethane. It is NOT latex. The open cell structure is breathable and promotes air flow. Air, water, and gel systems are all “closed” systems that displace pressure instead of absorbing and relieving it. Air is pushed out of the Tempurpedic mattress cells then pressure is applied. When the pressure is removed, the cells automatically “reinflate” to return to their original shape. This breathable structure also promotes the dissipation of heat to keep you cool and comfortable.
